The $200 add-on most operators skip right past
The Tip
If you're delivering still photos and nothing else, you're charging for a Polaroid in an Instagram world. Not a knock — I did it for three years. But animated photos changed what clients are willing to pay, and more importantly, what they actually *want*.
Here's the pitch: add animated photos as a $200 line item. Not bundled. Not quietly included. A separate thing on your quote with a name, a price, and a description that takes up two lines. "Motion Photos — $200. Your guests' photos come to life with animated movement. Perfect for sharing to Stories."
The move that actually closes it: during the quoting conversation — not at the end, not in the contract, but mid-conversation when they're still excited — you text them a sample. A 5-second looping clip from a real wedding. Real guests, real venue, real moment moving on a loop. Don't explain it. Just send it and let them watch it four times.
Most couples have never seen what their wedding photos could look like animated. Once they have, $200 feels like a no-brainer.
The math: if you're doing 6 weddings a month and half of them take the add-on, that's $600 extra per month. $7,200 a year. No extra gear. No extra hours. In most booth software it's a single toggle you flip on before the event starts.
I left that money on the table for longer than I care to admit.
The Story
Becca runs a solo booth operation out of Nashville — Belle Meade weddings, bachelorette parties in East Nashville, the occasional corporate gig downtown. For her first two years she ran one package: four hours, unlimited prints, digital gallery delivery, $1,100. That was it. She was fully booked most weekends, so she figured the pricing was working.
What she didn't realize was that she was fully booked *despite* not upselling — not because of it.
Last spring, she started adding animated photos as a $200 add-on after another operator in her Facebook group mentioned they were making an extra $1,500 a month from it. Becca was skeptical. She figured couples would balk at anything tacked onto an already-not-cheap package.
She built a sample using footage from a bridal expo she'd done the month before — just 8 seconds of guests laughing and waving at the booth, looping on repeat. Started dropping it into every quote conversation via text.
The take rate floored her. First month: 5 out of 7 clients said yes. That's $1,000 she didn't have before, from a setting she turned on in her software.
But the thing she didn't see coming — clients started sending the animated photos directly to their wedding photographers and saying, *"Can you do something like this?"* Three separate photographers asked Becca for referrals. She turned two of them into vendor partnerships that now feed her leads every single month.
By December she had raised her base rate to $1,250 and kept the $200 animated add-on separate. Her average booking now sits at $1,380. She went from $79,200 gross in 2023 to clearing over $110,000 last year — same number of gigs, same one booth, same load-in routine.
"I thought I'd maxed out what I could charge," she said. "I hadn't even gotten close."
Try This Week
Before your next client conversation, pull an animated photo sample from a past gig — or create a quick one at home — and save it to your camera roll. When the quote is flying back and forth, just text it over. No explanation needed. Watch what happens next.
Clients can't unsee a great animated photo. Once they see it, the upsell does the work for you.
