The $200 add-on that sells itself (no pitch required)

The Tip

Most operators try to upsell on the phone. "We also offer this, we also offer that." It goes nowhere because the client can't picture what you're describing. Animated photos are the worst offender — you say "it's like a moving photo" and they say "oh, like a video?" and the whole conversation falls apart. Stop describing it. Show it. Here's the move: when you're in the quote conversation — text, email, doesn't matter — drop a sample animated photo right into the thread. Pull one from your last wedding. Guests mid-dance, confetti mid-air, whatever looks fun. Send it with zero explanation. Just: "This is the animated photo add-on a lot of our couples are going with — $200 on top of the base package." That's it. Let the clip do the talking. The math is stupid simple. If you do 6 weddings a month and half your couples take the add-on, you're pocketing an extra $600 a month. That's $7,200 a year from one toggle in your software. No extra gear. No extra setup time. No hauling anything different into the load-in. The booth does the exact same thing it always did — you just turned on a setting. The operators who get 60-70% take rates on this aren't better salespeople. They're just not making clients imagine something they can't picture. They send the clip first and let the answer come on its own. ---

The Story

Keely runs a solo operation out of the Nashville area — she does a lot of country club weddings out in Brentwood, some corporate gigs downtown, and the occasional barn wedding an hour east in Murfreesboro. For three years her wedding package was a clean $1,100. Prints, gallery, prop box, done. She felt like charging more would cost her bookings. Last spring, she started getting questions from couples about whether she offered "those moving photo things" — they'd seen them on TikTok and Instagram. She didn't have a good answer, so she dug into her booth software one afternoon and realized the feature was already there. She'd just never turned it on. She ran it at a test wedding in April. Bride's maid of honor posted one of the animated photos to her Instagram Stories within 20 minutes of hitting the booth. It got 400 views. By Sunday morning, Keely had two DMs from people asking about her availability. She added it to her pricing sheet the following Monday. $200 on top of her base package, listed as "Motion Photos." She also did something smart: she screenshotted the actual GIF from that April wedding — guests holding sparklers with the motion blur mid-twirl — and started texting it to every new lead. Her close rate on the add-on: 7 out of her first 10 conversations said yes. In three months she cleared an extra $1,400 from that line item alone. She also raised her base rate to $1,200 in June. Nobody pushed back. "I kept thinking I'd have to explain it," she said. "But I'd send the clip and immediately get back 'yes, we want that.' I wasn't even done typing." ---

Try This Week

This week, pull one animated photo from a recent gig — or make a quick sample at home — and text it to one bride or event client you're currently quoting. Don't explain it. Just send the clip and name the price. That single moment of "oh wow" does more selling than any description you could write. **
